man, do i just keep saying the same things over and over. yep. 'cause that's what i do. i forget how many times a person needs to hear something before they can recall it by rote. clearly, i didn't hear that information enough times.
anyway- last day before heading home. uploaded two videos to YT during this trip. one was based on a piece of music i wrote 3 years ago (shuffle). fun little white boy rap. the second piece was written, arranged, and made into a video in just 2 days. it's called "lies". as has been the case lately, it was inspired by my YT experiences, but this is not a cutesy song for the entertainment of 13-17 yr.-old males.
the inspiration, if you want t call it that, is based on a few things. 1- i have been told through YT comments (from young adults) that being polite is the worst kind of selfishness 2- that telling someone to "grow the fuck up" is not a belittling statement, but truth 3-i received an email notifying me that a YT friend and his family would be killed by the email author because my friend is openly gay.
after much thought, i came to the conclusion that everyone (myself included) thinks that they are superior to someone else. we all have blind spots about our own flaws and generally believe that our way is the right and only way. nothing new there, right? and yet, what is it that makes us all equal? how can i not be superior to the gun-toting thug who helps murder children in rowanda? and isn't he looking at me (figuratively) and thinking the same thing.
so, i'm left with this. the human experience. we all share it, but none of our experiences are the same and so there are virtually infinite human experiences. lao tzu, buddha, jesus, ghandi, have spoken the truth. the one thing we all share is our humanity and our humanity is made up mostly of our animal nature. but the other thing about being human is that we are capable of asking questions about our own nature. by asking those questions we rise to the next level. by recognizing that not a single one of us has any real answers, we rise up again.
