Is Entertainment Art?

All this YouTube stuff has really made me think about how we as a society and as individuals end up valuing entertainment more than art. I mean, two songs that come from my soul and are (I believe) beautiful pieces of music have been widely ignored while a 1:22 piece of silliness continues to be viewed and is up at 885 as of this afternoon. I think the music for Noodly Appendage is pretty good, but the lyrics sure didn't come from any deep emotional, passionate place in my psyche. I got so excited about the number of views, that I started writing response pieces for Hanko de Mayo (vlogbrothers) and Wheezy Waiter. Somehow, I'm willing to forgo the passion of true art for the glitter of entertainment.

So what's involved in creating entertainment? Humor, clever word play, giving people that which comforts them (because they've experienced it before) but packaged like something new. And can real art be entertaining? Can light entertainment be considered an art form? I don't know? Anybody out there have any thoughts?
