today i am feeling ridiculously delighted with myself because "sistersalad" has subscribed to my youtube channel. while it's true that i genuinely respect and admire both lizz and alexandra, i am cracking myself up that i care so much about what they may (or may not) think of my music (ergo-think of me).
isn't this something we do to ourselves and our kids all the time. we say, "be true to yourself" "it only matters what you think" "to thine own self be true"; we promote rugged individualism almost to the point of isolationism and yet i have yet to meet any functional human who doesn't care at least a little bit about what others think.
maybe it's a question of whose opinion we care about. evolutionarily, it's important for us to be accepted by our troop or tribe. do we subconsciously perceive people we admire as members of our tribe, increasing the importance we place on their opinions of us? i don't know, but i'm still giggling happily.
